Islamic Society of Gold Coast Reaches Out To Celebrate Multiculturalism

Posted on: 17 November 2012

The Islamic Society of Gold Coast (ISGC) Management Committee was delighted to host our second 'Annual Community Leaders & Representatives Luncheon' at the Gold Coast Masjid on Saturday 17th November 2012.

The event was successful and ISGC was pleased to have the attendance and support of over seventy invited guests including local politicians from all levels of local, state and federal government, local and state government officials  and leaders from the various multicultural organisations based on the Gold Coast.

The event was attended by a number of dignitaries including Federal Member for Fadden, Mr Stuart Robert MP, Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Mr Robert Cavallucci MP, Assistant Minister for Child Safety Mr Rob Molhoek and Miss Verity Barton (MP for Broadwaters).

The ISGC was also pleased to present the 'Annual ISGC Community Award' to Councillor Margaret Grummitt  for her support of the Muslim community over the years. In addition to the award presentation all guests were treated to a deliciously prepared lunch and given a momento gift for attending the luncheon in the form of flash drive that contained a presentation about Muslims in Queensland.

This event represents an ongoing commitment to multiculturalism and ISGC Committee Members President Hussin Goss, Secretary Hussain Baba and Treasurer Habib Jamal spoke about the importance of multiculturalism in our diverse and vibrant community on the Gold Coast at the event. Secretary Hussain Baba was honoured to have coordinated and organised such an event and advised that as a result of this valuable opportunity to share and develop understanding amongst our diverse communities that it is the intention of the ISGC Management Committee to host these types of events on an ongoing annual basis. The feedback from guests has been very positive and the ISGC Management Committee feels encouraged and pleased to continue hosting such events.
